Hello all! Welcome to Credenza of Nothing (CoN). My name is Johnaven Dubose, also known in some circles as Dark Spider (sometimes with an X or Zero added at the end of it). This is my second webcomic, with my first one being "Niece Web" (you can find a link to it at the bottom of this page).
The first thing you may notice if you've been to the Niece Web website already, is that this website has a VERY similar design. In fact, this site is mostly just a palette swap filled with relevant comic info and visuals. The reason for this is that I REALLY HATE web design. I just got finished redesigning the Niece Web site a few weeks ago, and I'm really creatively burned out from it. So for now, CoN will stick with this web design. Besides, I like this design alot. It worked for Niece Web, it can work for this one, ha. But sometime down the road, it will get a different look.
So what is Credenza of Nothing about? I call it a pseudo "reality documentary" in webcomic form. Think of tv shows like "The Office", "Malcolm in the Middle", or most reality tv shows like "The Real World" or "The Surreal Life". In those shows, we observe the life of the character(s) and they know it. In addition, they talk back to us and tell us what they are thinking and stuff like that. Well, you're going to see ALOT of that in this comic.
But that's not the focus of the comic. The main focus is the main character, Holden, who is a cynical person who does exactly whatever he wants. You get to hear his views about various stuff, and see how he makes unique makes his way through life. Also with him is his sidekick "Robin" (a strong and positive youth), his friend Dave (easy going lover of life), and his pet peeve, September (who equally hates Holden).
I created CoN because I wanted to dip my hand in topical humor. This comic will definitely dip into current events, pop culture, and things like that. Also, as I'm feeling restricted in my own life right now, I want to write a character that does whatever he wants and has "freed himself from life". That quality is really attractive to me right now and I wanted to create a character just like that. Holden is that character. One last reason is that I wanted to try writing in a looser and more whimsical manner. I don't want to do that in my other webcomic "Niece Web", as that comic is heading in a direction with more concrete plots and character(s)/characterization. For an analogy, Niece Web is to CoN like Classic Simpsons (pre season 9) is to Family Guy.
So yea, I hope you enjoy this new comic of mine. Due to its more simplistic design and art (compared to Niece Web), I'm able to update this baby 3 times a week every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Hasta la taters!
